Below you’ll find a list consisting of at least one Halloween-y thing to do in SoCal on each day of October, including some of our favorite haunts, horror-themed escape rooms, theatre experiences, family-friendly events, and more! #THL31Days
Sunday, October 1 – Queen Mary’s Dark Harbor (We’ll be there!)
Long Beach, CA — Attraction on the notoriously haunted Queen Mary featuring 7 mazes (4 aboard the ship!), bars, live entertainment and more. Not recommended for children.
Monday, October 2 – 60Out Escape Rooms: Ghost Ship
Los Angeles, CA — Two to six player escape room themed as a cursed ship, and you have only 60 minutes to escape! Can you release everyone from the dark spell, or will you become a part of the cursed crew like so many before you? 12+
Tuesday, October 3 – SugarMynt Gallery | Halloween Exhibition: Welcome To Haddonfield II
South Pasadena, CA — SugarMynt Art Gallery’s 3rd annual Halloween exhibit “Welcome to Haddonfield II” showcases photographs by behind-the-scenes photographer, Kim Gottlieb-Walker and is located next door to the original Michael Myers house!
Wednesday, October 4 – The Haunted Hotel & The Haunted Trail of Balboa Park
San Diego, CA — Sister attractions The Haunted Hotel (featured on The Travel Channel’s show “America’s Scariest Haunts”) and The Haunted Trail of Balboa Park (San Diego’s only all outdoor haunted attraction) are located less than 10 mins apart! Not recommended for children under the age of 10.
Thursday, October 5 – Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood
Universal City, CA — Universal Studios transforms by night into a three-dimensional world of horror featuring 8 walk-throughs, the Titans of Terror Tram, a Jabbawockeez live show and scare zones. Not recommended for children under the age of 10.
Friday, October 6 – Mabel’s 6 Feet Under
Anaheim, CA — You’ll have to find your way out of this attraction as it is an actual maze where Mable (the little girl who lives in the motel) has enlisted the help of the dead and undead motel staff to keep you in her tourist trap: Come to the MOTEL. Check in. Then get lost. Not recommended for children.
Saturday, October 7 – Grave Harvest
Fullerton, CA — Orange County’s Halloween Convention featuring dark vendors, exhibitors and classes throughout the day!
Sunday, October 8 – Into The Black
Pomona, CA — While we don’t know much about the highly anticipated new attraction from Bone Yard Effects, we do know that the Into the Black Haunted Experience is a single person walk through (yes, you go through completely alone), and will also offer a virtual reality experience. 13+
**EDIT 10/8/17: Due to unforeseen circumstances Into The Black will now be opening on Friday, October 13th.
Monday, October 9 – Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch
Culver City, CA — A family-owned and operated business focusing on bringing the farm to the city and celebrating the magic of Halloween by offering high-quality pumpkins and a fun-filled family experience.
Tuesday, October 10 – Quest Room: Bloody Elbow
Los Angeles, CA — In this thrilling escape room you have been accused of witchcraft and incarcerated to await your death by the hands of a executioner nicknamed “Bloody Elbow”. You have only one hour to try your fate and escape the dungeon! 16+
Wednesday, October 11 – Hocus Pocus at the El Capitan
Los Angeles, CA — Check out a special screening of Disney’s Halloween classic Hocus Pocus. After accidentally being conjured up by some unsuspecting pranksters, three outlandishly wild witches (Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy) return from 17th-century Salem to reclaim their youth, but must first outwit three kids and a talking cat! Rated PG.
Thursday, October 12 – Knott’s Scary Farm
Buena Park, CA — As night falls, Knott’s Berry Farm turns into Knott’s Scary Farm: the largest Halloween experience in Southern California with menacing mazes, sinister shows, thrill rides and more, plus over 1,000 monsters roaming the park and lurking in the fog. Not recommended for children under 13.
Friday, October 13 – Los Angeles Haunted Hayride
Los Angeles, CA — Be transported into an immersive world of ghosts, psychopathic clowns, vicious demons and Halloween magic. In addition to the dark maze, scare zones, iconic Haunted Hayride, and more, this date will feature special showings of Friday the 13th on multiple screens, playing both Part 6: Jason Lives as well as the Friday the 13th 2009 remake. Event not recommended for children under 10.
Saturday, October 14 – The Fleshyard
Anaheim, CA — A family owned and operated house maze, guests will walk through an “old, run down cabin where only the most depraved souls reside.” 12+
Sunday, October 15 – Talladega Frights: Beacon Point State Hospital & Spooky Hollow Farm
Bakersfield, CA — Head to Spooky Hollow Farm during the day for a slew of kid and family-friendly activities, corn mazes, pumpkin patches and more. After the kiddies head home, stick around for Beacon Point State Hospital, a haunted attraction not suitable for kids, people with weak stomachs, or those faint of heart.
Monday, October 16 – VanOaks Cemetery
Van Nuys, CA — VanOaks Cemetery is a halloween yard display and is great for families of all ages who love spooky, NOT gory, Halloween decorations.
Tuesday, October 17 – Boo at the Zoo
Los Angeles, CA — Treat the imagination, not the sweet tooth, at Boo at the L.A. Zoo, where you’ll find spine-tingling adventure every day in October and spooktacular entertainment – including puppet shows, special animal feedings, and pumpkin carving – on weekends. Family friendly and costumes are encouraged!
Wednesday, October 18 – Wicked Lit
Altadena, CA — With a runtime of nearly 3 hours, Wicked Lit is a walking show containing mature themes, adult language and theatrical violence, where audiences will experience three short plays as they are led through the grounds of the mausoleum and cemetery by Storyguides. Recommended for audiences ages 13+.
Thursday, October 19 – Horror Made Here: A Festival Of Frights at Warner Bros. Studio
Burbank, CA — The Warner Bros. Studio backlots transforms into a fun festival of frights featuring Halloween-themed activities, music, and more, plus the IT Experience: Neibolt House Hollywood, along with other frightening dark mazes from iconic movies. Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, under 8 years old not permitted.
Friday, October 20 – Long Beach Zombie Fest
Long Beach, CA — Opening day of a three-day invasion of undead music, guts, horror and fun for the whole family.
Saturday, October 21 – Zombie Joe’s Urban Death Tour Of Terror
North Hollywood, CA — Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group puts on a terrifying Haunted-Halloween theatre-attraction and steers theatergoers through a maze of inexplicable horrors! 16+
Sunday, October 22 – The Scream Zone & Savage House
San Diego, CA — The Scream Zone is San Diego County’s largest haunted experience and considered one of the goriest, scariest, and screaming-est fright fests to be found in the dark corners of Southern California, featuring four haunts and various other attractions (not recommended for children under 10). If you’re up for a different kind of experience, not too far away is Savage House: a themed attraction that will have you immersed in a storyline fit for a horror film, from beginning to end (not recommended for children under 12).
Monday, October 23 – Field Of Screams: The Haunted Stadium
Lake Elsinore, CA — Billed as Inland Empire’s #1 Halloween attraction, this haunt features four brand new mazes and Zombie Outbreak Laser Tag! Recommended for adults and teenagers. Children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult.
Tuesday, October 24 – 17th Door
Fullerton, CA — 2017 features part three of an ongoing saga following the story of the haunt’s main character, only known as Paula. Get ready for an extreme and interactive haunt experience unlike anything you’ve tried before! Be warned — this haunt does touch you and can get pretty intense so make sure you can handle it before buying a ticket! Recommended for adults/teens and all participants must sign a waiver.
Wednesday, October 25 – Creep LA: L O R E
Los Angeles, CA — Derived from the popular podcast and Amazon Prime Exclusive new series Lore, groups of eight are guided through a fully engaging, multi-sensory, 1-hour walk-thru experience of moody rooms, intimate encounters, and terrifying scenarios.
Thursday, October 26 – Lucha VaVOOM: The Smell of Fear
Los Angeles, CA — A Halloween spectacle of Mexican masked wrestling and high octane performances! 21+
Friday, October 27 – Sinister Pointe: HEX (We’ll be there!)
Santa Ana, CA — Billed as Orange County’s Largest Costume Affair, HEX will feature live entertainment, unique performers, interactive games, themed bars/food, a prized costume contest, and haunt and escape room elements… basically everything you could think to ask for! 21+
Saturday, October 28 – Six Flags Magic Mountain Fright Fest (We’ll be there!)
Valencia, CA — At night, Magic Mountain transforms into Fright Fest with mazes, scare zones, and the stuff of nightmares lurking around every corner of the park.
Sunday, October 29 – Captured Aural Phantasy Theater Presents Tales from The Crypt Theater of Mystery
Los Angeles, CA — Join Captured Aural Phantasy Theater and the Bob Baker Marionette Theater this Halloween for the Tales from the Crypt Theater of Mystery, an evening of underworld treats that combines multi-media performances of vintage horror comics and the sweet seductions of the legendary, historic Bob Baker marionettes. The night includes live music, macabre magic acts and entertainment to make you fall in love with autumn’s ultimate holiday.
Monday, October 30 – Reign Of Terror
Thousand Oaks, CA — 100 bone chilling rooms in 8 different attractions! While there is no age restriction, bringing babies, young children or forcing terrified children through the haunted house is discouraged.
Tuesday, October 31 – The Haunted Shack
Torrance, CA — A free home haunt, celebrating their 20th year in 2017. 6+.
